About
About Painter's Cards — three studios, one family
Painter's Cards is the hub for three small browser studios that paint with the palettes of Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne and Claude Monet. It exists to introduce them, show what they do, and hand you the doors.
1Three painters, three engines
Van Gogh's Card, Cézanne's Card and Monet's Card were built as one family: the same interface, the same seven exports, the same brush and text tools — but three different stroke engines, each written by hand from a painter's method, and 27 palettes distilled from each painter's canvases. Eighty-one palettes in all.
2Why seeded painting
A filter mutates an image; these engines build one. Given a palette and a seed they lay strokes deterministically — which is why a card can be re-created exactly, re-rolled endlessly, or locked in part while the rest re-paints. The engines are the point; the cards are their drawings.
3Nothing uploaded, nothing stored
All three studios run entirely in your browser: no account, no server round-trip for painting or export, and photos you drop in for palette extraction never leave your device. This hub is a static site for the same reason — there is no database behind it to leak.
4The family keeps its doors open
Each studio links to the other two as friend sites, and each carries a story page: Arles for Van Gogh, Provence for Cézanne, the Giverny garden for Monet. Start anywhere; the family is small on purpose.
Built lean
This hub is a fully static site — pre-rendered pages, self-hosted open-source fonts, no tracking scripts — so it loads as fast as the studios do. The demo images and animations in the gallery were rendered offline by the studios' own engines.
Fonts
Every typeface used here and in the studios is open source under the SIL Open Font License, free for personal and commercial use: Playfair Display, EB Garamond and Dancing Script for Latin (self-hosted), with Chinese calligraphy faces loaded on demand inside the studios. The full list lives on the terms page.
